Magic 8-Ball says, "Reply hazy, try again."

(I don't think anyone here would know. Besides, I don't think the
entire set was captured on either audio or film.)

MCA wanted to put out The Who's full set at Woodstock in 1994 for the
25th anniversary. It was nixed by Pete and Roger who both think it was
a lousy show. As long as they have a say, it's not coming out.

I wonder when the last time they listened to it, or if they have ever
(or are able to) listen to it objectively. The common excerpts I've
heard are excellent IMO. Very agressive and brutal (in a good way.)

Right, I remember various quotes from Roger and Pete about how much
they hated their performance. Daltrey said it was their worst ever.
But what I've seen of their set was fantastic. I read somewhere that
Entwistle is playing under the effects of an entire bottle of bourbon,
which he drank hoping to rid himself of the effects of LSD with which
someone had spiked his coffee.. The booze certainly didn't slow him
down any.

Surely, with all the mediocre shows Pete and Roger did as the Who in
the post-Entwistle period (like the miserable one they gave at the Who
tribute that is constantly showed on VH1) they know longer consider
Woodstock their worst one!

Brian, I thought The Who's complete performance wasn't filmed? I
remember reading that The Who told the filmmakers that they didn't
want to be filmed, so the filmmakers waited about 30 minutes before
they started to shoot.

It's hard to say how much was filmed especially after Warner Brothers
lost the logs of what is on the outtakes in an early 1970's fire.
There was a guy shooting black-and-white over at the side of the stage
that was the source of the bootleg video you may have seen floating
around. However, the whole thing was recorded on audio tape and that's
what MCA wanted to release.

P.S., you'd have to strap Daltrey down in a chair Clockwork Orange-
style to get him to listen to any old Who recording on which he's made
up his mind. When I met him at the 2003 re-premiere of The Kids Are
Alright he refused to even go into the theater while the movie was
playing.

Oh OK. That would be cool, my old LP is unlistenable. As far as the
video, I've heard all the complete songs have already been released.
I'm talking about the Wadleigh crew footage. Those priceless few
minutes (complete Were Not Gonna Take It, unedited My Generation, and
a minute plus of Sparks) that got released 2 years ago were
incredible. The best Who footage we've seen in a very long time.

There's another reason to lament John being gone, when he needed money he
could lean on Pete and Roger to tour or release something that would put
some money in his bank account and so the fans got something to enjoy.

At this point in their careers what do they think they're protecting by
keeping this show in the vaults? Are they afraid that it will tarnish their
legacy? It's like an Olympic champion with a bunch of gold medals around
his neck refusing to release film of his high school track tryout because it
wasn't a good day for him. Ridiculous, their place in music history is
secure, they're being too picky.

Do we REALLY need another 1969-70 show with TOMMY as the bulk of the
act?

There's Leeds, Hull, and IOW.

Where's Fillmore East 1968, or the like?

Where's more from the 1975-76 tour?

Where's the 1973-4 QUADROPHENIA tour?

Where's 1971 or 1972, other than the Young Vic on the WHO'S NEXT
Deluxe?

What about some REALLY early stuff, from 1967, or 1966, or 1965?

There was a rumor sometime in the early or mid '90s that a 1973 show,
perhaps it was the King Biscuit show, was going to be released and
would be available only through a fast food dealer, McDonald's I
think. Anyone remember that one. Pretty funny.

Supposedly the KBFH recording from the Quadrophenia Tour was being
released thru BK. Never believed it. It ju;st seemeed like an Aprill
Fools kind of joke.

I don't remember that, but it wouldn't have excited me much, anyway.
The performance is just so-so, and the recorded sound is unpleasant.

Hopefully, they would have done something about the sound.

Some songs worked better than others. Moon was still close to top
form for most of it.

If you want to take the time, you can record the complete KBFH concert
(and, for that matter, the complete 1970 Tanglewood show) off of King
Biscuit's own website. The problem is, you have to record it in real
time, and then deal with gaps between tracks.
