Hi, I'm looking to buy this box set for a good price. It's a bit
expensive on ebay for me. Anyone know of some good places to buy which
are less expensive?

Good luck--it doesn’t seem like they made too many of that set, most places
either don't have it or want some silly amount of money, like three or four
hundred bucks since it's now a rare collectible.

If you didn't get it when it orignally came out I'm afraid that you're
out of luck. I hope that you can find what you're looking for though
at a good price. I know that it's frustrating. If you can, it's
usually best to get these things when they're issued as you never know
when they'll be out of print. Maybe you and we will get lucky though
and Pete and Roger and John and Keith's estates will issue the Hull
show on its own. That's the only reason that I sprung for the box.

Try phoning around to local music stores, I just discovered a copy in the
Vinyl section of a local shop for the regular price, eighty bucks.
Considering people are selling them for four and five hundred bucks on eBay,
that was an amazing find.

I've honestly been thinking of selling my copy. How much would you be
willing to spend?

I've made FLAC copies of the Hull show and have never played either
the vinyl LP or the single. It's as new as the day I bought it
actually.

Unless you're a fanatical collector who needs *everything* then the Hull
show is the only part of that box set that justifies buying it (at the
regular price--there's no justification for paying hundreds on eBay). The
book is nice but there are lots of other nice books about The Who. I'd
guess that the Hull show will eventually be issued on its own, so it's worth
waiting for anyone who can't find the box set at the regular price.

The Hull show is available on itunes for $1.29 a track. Because of
the number of track, it's cheaper to buy the whole "album" (which
includes Leeds) for $29.99.

Hey, there's a useful tip, I never even thought to look there.

If memory serves the $1.29 tracks at the Apple store are somewhat higher
fidelity than their 99-cent tracks and are DRM-free.

The album is also available from Amazon downloads for $27.09, and Amazon's
downloads (256kB MP3) are DRM-free.

However I'm old-school, when I download an album (like the album of covers
of Who songs by reggae artists) the first thing I do is burn it to a couple
of discs as backups to the version on my computer. So I suppose it's just
as well I bought the box-set, I'd have to make my own discs anyway if I
downloaded it.

I know who just to speak to at Universal Records about Hull coming out
separately. Andy McKaie who does a lot of the reissues...I don't know
his email address can someone help me out?

You're welcome, I enjoyed it too. I waited awhile hoping to get it on CD
(old fart habits die hard) but eventually downloaded it and was glad I did.

Aye, well, I refuse to have Itunes on any of my computers, and the
amazon download is US only, so it looks like I still have to look for
a reasonably priced second-hand copy...... sigh...

You're unlikely to find a reasonably priced used copy. Unless they reissue
the set or release the Hull show on its own the demand exceeding the supply
will keep the price up.

As for iTunes, I tried Windows Media Player for awhile (recently) and it was
one of the most infuriating pieces of software I've ever experienced. Among
other charming attributes it "forgets" the names of the tracks on an album
and breaks up the album and scatters the pieces around with a lot of other
tracks for which it has forgotten the track information, leaving you with
umpteen tracks in the "Unknown artist, unknown album" folder. So I went
back to iTunes and put a little effort into learning how to fix things I
found annoying and now it's working quite well for me.

However if for some reason you really hate iTunes, you can still load it for
long enough to download the Hull show and then uninstall iTunes again. At
least then you'll have the music.
